The AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteers at Planting Field State Park to help remove invasive weeds

On August 3rd, the AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteers at Planting Field State Park to help remove invasive weeds. As a continuation of last week’s work, volunteers already knew what to do. The invasive species were stifling the growth of existing plants already there, and removing them made space for the plants to thrive and for new plants to grow there. Volunteers used various tools such as clippers and rakes to effectively remove the weeds, as well as using their hands to pull them out.

The volunteers worked from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM, putting in a solid morning of work to help restore the park’s ecosystem. They worked as a cohesive team, supporting one another and making significant progress in clearing out large sections of the park. This ongoing effort is part of the larger goal of maintaining and improving the park’s natural beauty, ensuring that it remains a healthy and vibrant space for both visitors and wildlife.

Volunteers: Bryan Fan (3 hrs), Simon Kong (2.5 hrs), Sunya Kong (2.5 hrs), and Jonathan Fan (2.5 hrs).
