AYLUS Roslyn Volunteers at Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County’s Group Home (1st) on 2/10/2024

On Saturday, February 10th, 2024, from 12:00 p.m to 3:00 p.m, the Roslyn Branch volunteered at the Adam’s Gate adult group home which is run by the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County.

As volunteers helping adults with special needs, it is our job to assist them in all the activities with patience and compassion. From helping the residents bake cookies step by step, to playing team games against each other, our goal was to make sure that everyone participated and enjoyed our time together. We helped the residents to follow the recipe, and measure  the ingredients. From mixing the cookie batter, to baking, to tasting, the house smelled delicious and laughter can be heard throughout.

With Valentines day right around the corner, we also made chocolate covered strawberries. Each resident took turns dipping strawberries into the melted chocolate. Then during arts and crafts time,  each volunteer partnered up with a resident and made hedgehogs with their own unique heart designs. We had great fun doing the activities together. Through volunteering at the group home today, we learned valuable lessons about being compassionate and helping others. We also learned that people with disabilities are capable of doing everyday things but they need to be included and embraced.

Members who participated include: Maxim Li (3 Hours), Zihan Wang (3 Hours), Jordan Bae (3 Hours), Angelika Jiang (3 Hours), and Nicholas Eng (3 Hours). Serena Chen (3 Hours).
