AYLUS Oakland Gardens Contact Schools for Help for Book Drive (01/09/2024)

The Oakland Gardens Branch decided to start a book drive to create a library in Africa as their 2024 goal. On January 9th, 2024, two AYLUS members, Stephanie You and Ioknor Lin, decided to help contribute to this book drive by telling their teacher about AYLUS and the book drive. Their teacher agreed and told them to take it further by telling the two student organization teachers about the book drive so they could introduce it to the school. Later, the teachers from the student organization agreed to help because they thought that this was something that can help improve the amount of reading materials received by children in higher poverty areas.

A former student from P.S. 203 and current AYLUS member, Sophia You, contacted the teachers via email. She explained our organization and more about our book drive. The student organization teachers agreed, and not only that, but asked our branch to provide a video with more information to show to student organization members. Four members of our branch got together and made a video, which we shared with them. In the video, the four AYLUS members introduced themselves and talked about how to help donate 1000 books to Africa. Then they added how and why P.S. 203 should help contribute to the book drive. After the teachers saw the video, they agreed to help AYLUS start the book drive by putting a book donation box inside/outside the school where people could see it.
