AYLUS Roslyn Helps Spreads Awareness About Birds with Audubon Center (10th) on July 29, 2023

On Saturday, July 29, members of the Roslyn AYLUS branch volunteered at Sunken Meadow beach with Audubon New York from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM.

First, volunteers helped set up the tent and organize brochures, stickers, and pamphlets. Then, we got a pen and a sheet of paper to collect signatures from the people on the beach. We asked them to sign a pledge to help protect the birds by asking them to keep out of the bird’s nesting area, to keep your dog away from these areas, and to clean up after yourself. Additionally, we kept a very positive attitude towards people who were willing to sign and who were not. We explained to people that collecting enough signatures helps raise money from the government to support the birds. The weather was extremely hot and humid, but we did our best to collect as many signatures as we could.

At the end of the day, we gathered about 400 signatures. Overall, we not only learned the importance of protecting the birds, but we also practiced how to communicate with people. We hope more volunteers will participate in this activity.

Members who participated include:

Brooke Zheng (5 hours)

Christopher Zhu (5 hours), Angeline Li (5 hours), Michael Zhang (5 hours), Lily Zhang (5 hours), and Zihan Wang (5 hours).
