AYLUS New York City Removes Aquatic Invasive Species

On Friday, August 7th, 2020, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, the AYLUS New York City Branch removed water chestnut, an invasive species, from Tibetts Brook Park. Water chestnut harms the aquatic wildlife by blocking out the sunlight from reaching underwater plants. Furthermore, the plant has spikes that can are harmful when in contact, and it hinders boat navigation as well. Volunteers pulled the weeds out in rowboats and waders.

The volunteers that participated were Timothy Wang, Alice Wang, Jerry Xia, Sarah Luo, and Sophie Luo.
