Description of the Sacramento Branch

We are the leaders of a group of service focused teens who are committed to serving the Sacramento community. The founders listed above have collectively completed over 500 hours of community work in the past 2 years. While our service interests are vast, for 2020 we are focused on the educational inequity that is occurring due to distance learning in our community’s vast refugee student population. Last March, we (Alexander & Avery Yue) created a free online tutoring program that works to address these needs (https://wwtutoring.club/about-us.html). This past summer we provided over 200 hours of tutoring support to Newcomer students enrolled in a local school district’s six week summer school program. This fall, with 14 high schoolers wanting to tutor and over 600 Newcomer students wanting tutoring, we plan to continue online tutoring support for these students. After the pandemic restrictions lift, we hope to provide in-person tutoring, academic enrichment, social activities and book drives to continue our support of under-resourced students in our community. In the future, our founding members have expressed interest in improving literacy, math, and technology skills in our community for individuals of all ages as well as helping meet the needs of our ample homeless population. What we appreciate most about AYLUS is it allows us to pursue many different service projects under one organization.
