Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) branch in NJ has many members with talents in sports, such as swimming, skating, tennis, table tennis, and golf, etc. Sarah Yan, who is very gifted in the chess playing, performed her unique volunteering services by teaching young girls how to play chess as part of our “Youth Sports Tutoring” project since 2018.
Youth Sports Tutoring Service of Sarah Yan:
My name is Sarah Yan. I am currently 13 years old and I am in 8th grade at Grover Middle School in West Windsor, New Jersey.
I am interested in Chess. Chess is a very competitive sports, like those on UFABET เว็บตรง, but unlike other sports, chess is a quiet game. I am currently ranked #12 in New Jersey among female chess players. I have been volunteering as an instructor of an “All Girls Chess Camp” with my friend Alice for years; we wanted to encourage more girls to play chess. I love spending the day with young girls who are eager to learn chess. The more I teach, the more I feel bonded with those enthusiastic girls. I am so proud to see those girls I taught showing up at the chess tournaments and fight for each game they played.
Besides playing and teaching chess, I started learning swimming when I was 5 and have been in a competitive swim team for over 4 years. I really enjoy swimming and it makes me feel so good to be in the water. Swimming helped me learn the basic survival skills and take it to another level. As a swimmer, swim meets are the most exciting parts, which is full of fun and challenges. I enjoy cheering on other team members, making new friends, as well as getting Junior Olympic times myself. Our team members have gotten really close and my friends feel like another family to me. I am currently looking for more volunteer opportunities around me while swimming, for example, to teach children how to swimming, and to work as a lifeguard, etc.
I love to volunteer and help others who are in real need. Now as a GPA member, I can make new friends and have the chance to serve our community and make a change.
A Note from the GPA President Cassie Tammy Wang:
Congratulations to Sarah Yan! It is good to see Sarah has achieved so much in both chess and swimming competitions. Also impressed by her unique All Girls Chess Camp volunteer service that would surely promote young girls for chess playing in the way that Sarah is pretty good at. GPA encourages its members to participate in any volunteer services of any scales: personal, team work, or GPA organized activities. Little by little, we are making a greater difference together!
