On Sunday from 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm, the Roslyn AYLUS branch helped out at a school of Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island.
We volunteered as assistant teachers for different chinese classes for different ages. From 1:30 to 4:00 pm, I helped out the Chinese teacher pass out papers and stamps to the children to encourage them to learn. We also helped them individually to ensure everyone understands the teachers’ directions. During cultural hour, we helped the Chinese calligraphy teacher by covering the desks with paper to prevent ink spills on the table. We also helped by taping the paper to the desk so it wouldn’t move when the children were writing and filled two glasses with water so the children could wet their pens.
