Roslyn Helps out at Lunar New Year Celebrations (1st) on January 27, 2023

The Great Roslyn Association for Chinese Enrichment organization hosted the Lunar New Year celebration, on January 28th. But before the festive and celebration could start, there was a lot of background work to be done.

On Friday 1/27/23 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch members helped assemble and decorate the hallways of Sid Jacobson JCC in preparation for the upcoming Lunar New year Celebration.

Our four volunteers assembled many paper lanterns and two long paper dragons, ready to be hung on the ceilings. We sorted through boxes stuffed with already-made paper lanterns and went through the process of unraveling them out of their tangled jumble. We also helped steady ladders and rip pieces of tap to hand to the adult hanging the lanterns up.

With all the lanterns taped to the ceilings, we moved on to decorating the walls. There was a collection of creative Lunar New Year drawings made by kids ranging from 6 to 12 years old. We stuck stickies to the back and arranged all 28 of them on two separate walls in a specific order, making sure to present them in an orderly and aesthetically pleasing way. It was difficult at first- some came out sideways and the heights were uneven. But after we assigned one person as the spotter to direct others, we managed to line them up evenly.

Member who participated include:
