AYLUS Pearland Works With the Light and Salt Association’s Special Need Program, June 7-10

In June 2022, AYLUS Pearland has continued to work with Light and Salt Association with the special needs program, where the volunteers worked with adults with special needs to help them improve with and learn basic skills.

On the 7th, 8th, and 10th of June, the volunteers participated in and assisted with many activities and lessons with the special needs campers. The buddies and campers worked together with art, music, Spanish, and more activities. They decorated envelopes with stickers and tape, and while some of the volunteers were working on them with the buddies, the others were in a separate room working on them because we needed more envelopes to be made. The campers and buddies worked on singing and clapping different beats, and then they learned some Spanish letters and vocabulary. Some volunteers taught dance, skills, music, and art, while others worked as buddies to work with campers. Each buddy worked six hours each day and each teacher had 6.5 hours with a half hour preparation for the lesson.

The volunteers who went in the three days were:

June 7th: Miranda Li (teaching dance), Aila Jiang (teaching skills), Erica Gao (teaching art), Derek Zhu, Iris Yang, Alex Song, Abigail Zheng, Anna Zheng, Roy Zheng, Yu Wang

June 8th: Alexander Healy, Alex Song, Jonathan Niu, Matthew Niu, Erica Gao, Derek Zhu, Abigail Zheng, Anna Zheng, Yu Wang, Roy Zheng

June 10th: Derek Zhu (teaching music), Emma Lu (teaching art), Kang Zhang, Alex Song, Andrew Lu, Erica Gao, Alex Dai, Iris Yang
