On Saturday, February 6th 2021 from 1:00-4:00 PM EST, the Williamsville Branch of AYLUS hosted their very first chess tournament (on Lichess). Tournaments on Lichess are open to all ages and skill levels to promote playing chess during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the tournament about to start, more than 15 people joined the WilliamsvilleAYLUS Team to compete in the inaugural tournament which included trophy prizes, including players throughout New York State.

The tournament started at 1:00 PM EST with 20 participants in a 2 hour Swiss style tournament. There were 3 rounds in the tournament. The competitors played some nail-biting games while some played a very clean game with very little blunders. After 2 hours of chess, the top 3 were:

  1. Dragoniteu 3/3 (3 wins)
  2. MagnusCarsl3n 2.5/3 (2 wins and a draw)
  3. JuliaMu 2.5/3 (2 wins and came late)

Volunteers spent time to hand package and deliver the prizes for the top 3 players. Thank you to all who participated! Everyone had fun during this tournament and had the chance to play against opponents with varied ages and skill levels.

Volunteers: Grace Wang (4 hours), Matthew Li (1 hour), Dasang Dolma (4 hours), Eileen Wang (3 hours)
