Greater Princeton AYLUS Sports Committee Hosts Chess Classes (51st) for Community in September 2021

The Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) Sports Committee created a new chess schedule with classes on Mondays and Tuesdays. For the first two classes, we evaluated the levels of these new students along with reinforcing their basic knowledge on the core chess principles. After class, we went over how to create a chess.com account and the students got to play their first game against each other.

Additionally, GPA started a Tuesday class for beginners. It occurs every Tuesday from 6-7 pm. During class, we introduced ourselves and looked at the basic principles of chess like what the piece names are and how many points they are worth. After class, the students made chess.com accounts and friended each other to make it easier to play games in the future classes.

We host Chess Tournaments on the first Saturday every month starting in October 2020. Our next Chess Tournament is October 2, 2021 from 7-8 pm EST.

Participants: Sarah Yan (September 13, 14, 2 hours each, New session flyer: 2 hours), Erick Yan (September 13, 14, 2 hours each, New session flyer: 2 hours), George Chen (September 13, 14, 2 hours each).
