On 10/27/2020, three members of AYLUS Syosset (Jasmine Chen, Alan Huang and Greene Xue) and three members of Manhasset AYLUS (Matthew Yang, Loretta Liu, and Elise Zhu) held the sixth collaborative Chinese Literature Appreciation class, tutoring 5th-grade Chinese-school students to appreciate a Chinese Classic– ”Journey to the West”–through reading, analysis, and discussion.
Attending students were grouped into two breakout rooms, each with at least 2 tutors and at least one advisor. In this class, teachers continued their read-throughs and presentations about “Journey to the West”. Students took turns reading each paragraph, with the tutors assisting them with pronunciation and understanding of the text. Tutors also prepared short vocabulary word presentations and quick videos and games to promote student engagement.
The lessons lasted one hour and were followed by a short discussion and conclusion section.
