On July 25, 2020, volunteers from the Irvine Branch of AYLUS hosted its Summer Learning Experience’s sixth math class. Participants in the class consisted of upper elementary school students and the class was conducted through the Zoom platform.
This lesson revolved around the topic of probability, where students got to learn important formulas for probability and applied them to various problems such as the classic coin-flipping questions as well as conceptual ones.
Before class, we held office hours. We went through the main lecture and gave them a set of challenging problems to do, encouraging students to pitch in and volunteer to explain. Then, we played a fun-filled Kahoot which combined both quick-wittedness and competitiveness. Lastly, teachers held a debrief to assess how the lesson went.
We hope to continue spreading the joy of math through our Summer Learning Experience!
