Today on July 24th 2020, the Phoenix branch continues day 3 of the archivist volunteer program to help transcribe historical documents. Today there was an additional 5 documents copied by volunteers that ranged from case files to lawsuit accounts. Yongfeng Chen transcribed the 11926: Joseph R. Willie v. Harris County pg.235.
“I learned that Plaintiffs have to ask permission in order from the Park Director or Park Commissioner to enter Sylvan Beach Park”.
Caleb Liu wrote out more of the Case File of Joseph Brown.
“I learned about the Medical diagnosis for Joseph Brown (for first pic) and the Honorable discharge emblem (for second pic).”
Finally, Amy Xie transcribed Transcript of Record, Volume 4 2202 and Transcript of Record, Volume 4 2203 .
“Both of these took me some time to do because they were rather long. I’d estimate both of them took about an hour. I started transcribing these records in the middle of what seemed to be like a conflict regrading stocks. The writer of these document explained that he had business between two men and they had to sell stocks in different cities. They traveled to some towns in Virginia and New York and had successful sales. However, foul play was detected between one of the men and their clients, as he scammed them into buying a blank subscription with no stocks. This created conflict because the angry clients came to their office and demanded their stocks that they were promised. The man who cheated the clients out of their payment wanted to resign his position at the office, but the writer of the records wouldn’t let him until he solved the conflict. While transcribing the records, it felt like I was reading a book, it was very interesting and I plan to transcribe more of the record tomorrow to see what happens next.”
