On October 31st, 2026, members of the Syosset AYLUS organization returned to volunteer with LINPI (Long Island Native Plant Initiative) to support the nursery’s ongoing conservation efforts. Volunteers began by raking out unwanted plants growing underneath other plants, which were competing for space and stealing nutrients from the nursery’s intended crops, and then carefully disposed of them to give the healthy plants room to thrive. The group also took part in LINPI’s monthly compost run, helping gather and move compost that keeps the nursery’s soil rich and its operations sustainable. Volunteers then cut back plants that needed trimming, helping keep them healthy and well maintained heading into the colder months. Through this hands-on work, the team strengthened LINPI’s mission and contributed meaningfully to the protection and restoration of Long Island’s native plants.
