On the Sunday of October 4th, from 11am-2pm, the Roslyn Branch took part in the Mid-Autumn Festival at Eisenhower Park, we partnered with the GRACE organization and CP Nassau at a stand at the festival.
While others were handing out lanterns and having the kids that came by to decorate them, on this side of the stand we were selling donated goods (accessories, mystery boxes, fridge magnets, etc.) in an effort to fundraise for the CP Nassau. This is an organization where they organize interactive activities for people with cerebral palsy, intellectual and developmental disabilities right at their homes. This could include arts, crafts, baking, and much more. By the end of the day there was a total of $82 raised and it would be going into a good cause by funding the money needed for the CP Nassau to get materials for such activities. The volunteers gained experience selling items as a form of fundraising as well as being able to interact directly with people of the community. Throughout the duration of the event, volunteers had to have communication skills in order to allow the people that bought items get what they wanted and know what causes the money was going to.
