On October 3, 2026 from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, AYLUS Oakland Gardens held its 258th event where the branch members went to Fort Totten park to assist with their annual Fall Festival event.
The event started with setting up the activities and assigning members to certain roles, which took a total of around 1.5 hours to set up. At around 1 PM people started showing up, lining up to do the activities we set up. At around 4 PM we started to wrap everything up by doing stuff such as taking down the inflatables and by packing up the stands, which we finished at around 4:30.
The activities featured during the event include face painting, taking photos in a pumpkin patch, bouncing in a bounce house, navigating through a haunted mansion’s maze, sliding down slides, shooting hoops, painting pumpkins, and making DIY crafts. Free food was also given out during the event. This includes buttered popcorn, candy apples, and cotton candy.
In total, 25 high school volunteers helped with making this event possible. 20 of them helped with managing the activities and cleaning up the area and 5 of them helped with doing the face painting. We helped with managing the activities by getting people to do certain roles related to their activity. For example, for the pumpkin patch, one person gave people a green wristband ticket to go in the pumpkin patch while another person made sure every child got one pumpkin. Another example would be that for the garbage picking crew, two people would scavenge for litter while one person would hold open the bag and follow them, making the process more efficient.
