On 8/8/2026, Aylus volunteers volunteer at Valley Stream State Park from 10:00am to 12:30am (2.5 hours).
Today we’re doing a stream cleanup at Valley Stream State Park, which we haven’t visited since 2024. In short, our job is to pick up all trash in the stream. These trash can not only be there because someone deliberately threw them into the river, but also because they can be brought by flooding and rain.
Even though the water looks clear and you really won’t think there’s even trash in the water, there’s plastic everywhere: from water bottles to plastic bags to package bags for candies and chips. Things found that are more “interesting” include basketballs, socks, masks, and a baseball bat.
It’s important to not throw any trash anywhere——they can hurt the environment.
