On Saturday, August 1st, 2025, from 8 am to 4 pm, volunteers from AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch hosted their third annual Family Fun Day at Kissena Park for their 241st event. For eight hours, our members worked hard and managed a variety of activities in order to create a fun environment for families in the community. In order for the event to have operated so smoothly, however, a lot of planning and organization was required and every member of the AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch played a tremendous role in today’s success.
The branch was initially divided into two groups, Group A and Group B, so that members could both enjoy Family Fun Day and volunteer for part of the event. Within each group, members were assigned to one of twelve sections, with each section responsible for operating a specific activity booth. The stations included Archery, the Three-Legged Race, Penguin Walk, Hand and Foot Challenge, Egg Relay Race, Sack Race, Blindfold Gong Challenge, Face Painting, and Balloon Twisting. Volunteers at the Balloon Twisting booth even offered to cover both the A and B shifts throughout the event, allowing them to consistently meet every balloon request. In addition, some members managed the concession booth, where refreshments and snacks were sold, while others operated the raffle booth, where prizes such as a beach tent and a hair-cutting kit were awarded to participants.
After the event officially concluded, members worked together to clean up the park to ensure that the event remained environmentally friendly. NYC Parks graciously allowed us to host such a large event at Kissena Park, so it was important to leave the area in the same condition as we found it. A dedicated cleanup team collected trash throughout the event area, picking up popped balloon animals, plastic bags, and other litter that could harm the park’s environment. Additionally, members who used plastic water bottles were encouraged to recycle them at the concession stand, helping to reduce waste and minimize the event’s environmental impact. Through these efforts, we were able to leave the park clean while demonstrating our appreciation for the community space that made the event possible.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to our event sponsors, LingoAce and New York Life Insurance. Both organizations generously provided our members with breakfast and lunch, and their support does not go unnoticed. Additionally, all our parents also played an extremely crucial role, volunteering their time to help supervise the activity booths. We would also like to thank our Parent Advisor Team, who helped apply for permits, coordinated with community partners, and managed every single detail of today’s event. Finally, thank you to all AYLUS Oakland Gardens members for their enthusiasm and hard work. This event truly would not have been possible without this entire team, and we are truly appreciative of the community within our branch.
