On Saturday, June 13, 2026, members of AYLUS Great Neck Branch gathered at the Great Neck Main Library to host a reading and craft program for local families. The event combined storytime with hands-on activities, giving children an opportunity to learn, create, and have fun.
The program began with three story readings. Amber Zhou read “A Big Bed for Little Snow”,Nathan read “My Grandfather’s Song” and Jiangyuan read “Mango Memories”. All three of these books are based around stories of Asian American and Pacific Islanders to honor AAPI.
After storytime, volunteers led several craft activities. Victoria taught crochet while Andrew Li, Jaden Chen, Christina Pan and Nathan Li taught the kids origami. They made different animals and it was a lot of fun. Amber Zhou aided Jolynn in teaching clay crafts. That day we made cookie monsters.
Throughout the event, volunteers worked closely with participants to make sure everyone felt welcome and engaged. In total, eight AYLUS members contributed to the program. By combining reading with interactive activities, the event encouraged literacy, creativity, and community involvement while providing a positive experience for local families.
