On the afternoon of Saturday, June 6, 2026, members of AYLUS Great Neck Branch gathered at the Great Neck Main Library to host a reading and craft program for local families. The event combined storytime with hands-on activities, giving children an opportunity to learn, create, and have fun.
The program began with three story readings. Volunteer Amber Zhou read Piper Chen Sings, a story about confidence and self-expression through music. Volunteer Jiangyuan Yu read I Miss You Most, which focused on family relationships and staying connected with loved ones. Volunteer Nathan Li read My Paati’s Saris, a story that highlights culture, family traditions, and the bond between generations.
After storytime, volunteers led several craft activities. Rebecca Xu helped organize the event, assisted participants throughout the afternoon and taught kids how to make paper cranes. Andrew Li taught children how to make origami cranes, helping them practice focus, patience, and creativity. Rainie Cheng and Victoria Xu taught children how to make origami butterflies and flowers and guided participants as they learned a new skill. Christina Pan led a clay tortoise activity, encouraging children to express their creativity through art.
Throughout the event, volunteers worked closely with participants to make sure everyone felt welcome and engaged. In total, eight AYLUS members contributed to the program. By combining reading with interactive activities, the event encouraged literacy, creativity, and community involvement while providing a positive experience for local families.
