Aylus Great Neck Branch Volunteer at National Tennis Center Flushing Meadows (Corona Park) on 5/30/2025

On May 30, 2026, Aylus volunteers went to Flushing Meadows National Tennis Center to participate in the Smash Hunger Tennis event.

The volunteers arrived at the event site and received their volunteer uniforms and name tags. They then began working according to their assigned tasks. Some volunteers were responsible for setting up the venue, which involved moving tables, chairs, and athletes’ food supplies from the parking lot to a designated location. Due to the large quantity and difficulty of moving them, the volunteers used trailers, and someone had to hold the supplies to prevent them from falling during the process.Some volunteers were responsible for promoting the event, using fun crafts to promote the tennis activity. The other volunteers were ball boys/girls. Their job is to retrieve tennis balls that have been hit out of bounds and hand them back to the players. The volunteers receive professional instruction before performing this task. There are usually four ball children on a court, one at each of the four sides. This ensures that no matter which direction the tennis ball flies, the caddies can quickly retrieve it. This saves the players’ energy and time, allowing the match to proceed more smoothly. After the final exhibition match and awards ceremony, the volunteers still needed to tidy up the tables and chairs used during the event before it officially ended. From this event, the volunteers learned a lot about tennis. It was definitely a rewarding activity.
