AYLUS Roslyn holds Robotics Workshop at the Bryant Library (3nd) on May 30, 2026

On Saturday, May 30, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, the Roslyn Branch volunteered with the Bryant Library to host a STEM event for children grades 4-8.

STEM is important in our everyday lives. By introducing advanced topics, such as renewable energy sources, Starship, and space travel wellness technology, we fostered a healthy learning environment for young minds. By targeting a wide range of ages 9-14, we reached children of various groups in our presentations and activities.

Roslyn and Oyster Bay members started preparations a week in advance. There were two meetings prior to 5/30. They practiced presentational skills, prepped several materials, assigned groups, and brainstormed ideas on how to enhance the excitement for the event. The day of the event, members showed up early to set up the table formation and distribute building kits, writing utensils, and questionnaires for each kid. They then set up the sound systems, ran through the presentation once more, and braced for the first kid to arrive. Once the kids started filtering in, the receptionists welcomed them with a name tag and guided them to their seats. Due to the different groups we set up for different activities, each group required members assigned to that group to avoid too much or too little focus to one side. The solar panels in each build kit taught the kids how using solar energy could be transferred into mechanical energy. The questionnaire allowed kids to use their imagination to expand their view on space life. There was a smooth integration between the volunteers helping the children learn while still maintaining a light and entertaining atmosphere.

Through this chaos, we volunteers were able to garner valuable lessons in interacting with the children, on how to offer assistance and reach out to one another, and learn to think on our feet and adjust to unexpected situations.

Members who participated include:
Miles Hu (4 hours), Xing yu (Sean) Lin (4 hours), Darren Shen (4 hours), Katelyn Zheng (4 hours), Kristen Zheng (4 hours), Lincoln Zheng (4 hours), Xieen He (3 hours), Sarah Zhang (3 hours), Kayden Cheng (2 hours), Roanne He (1 hour), Eric Xiong (1 hour).
