AYLUS Roslyn helps out at a School of CCA of Long Island (105th) on May 10th, 2026

On May 10th, from 1:30 to 5:00 pm, members of the Roslyn AYLUS Branch volunteered at the Chinese Center on Long Island (CCALI) at LIU. Volunteers signed in before the classes began and later went to their assigned classrooms to assist teachers throughout the day. Each classroom had several volunteers, depending on the number of students, to help keep activities organized and running smoothly. During class, volunteers passed out supplies, answered questions, and supervised students during activities. Volunteers also assisted teachers with setting up materials, organizing the classroom, and helping students stay focused and engaged during lessons and projects.

Since May 10th was Mother’s Day, many of the classroom activities were themed around showing appreciation for mothers. Students created handmade cards, decorations, and small crafts as gifts for their mothers. Volunteers helped students cut, color, and assemble their projects while encouraging them to be creative and thoughtful. In addition, the school organized flower sales so students could purchase flowers to give to their mothers as a special Mother’s Day gift.

At the beginning of class, we welcomed students as they arrived and helped them sign in. Throughout the day, volunteers guided students during activities, cleaned up materials and spills when necessary, and escorted students to the bathroom if needed. Once classes ended, we helped students transition safely to their culture classes and continued assisting teachers and students there as well.

This volunteer experience was both enjoyable and meaningful because it gave students a chance to express gratitude and appreciation for their mothers through creative activities. The teacher assistants helped the classrooms run more smoothly by supporting teachers with smaller tasks and giving extra help to students when needed. Volunteers were also able to build stronger connections with the students through teamwork and communication. Although the work could be tiring at times, the experience taught us responsibility, patience, and the importance of helping others.
