On April 21st, Great Neck AYLUS hosted another successful tutoring session at the Great Neck Library Station Branch from 6:00-7:00 pm. Junlin assisted a 5th-grade student with unit-conversion questions, exchanging units between imperial and metric units. They also worked on a variety of reading comprehension questions involving seatbelts and how they function. Linzi helped an elementary school student with spelling crucial words in the context of the text to improve understanding and expand vocabulary for future writing practices. Summer also helped a student with a variety of reading comprehension questions. But she went beyond being a student and worked with another student to prepare him for the third-grade maths state test, which he nearly passed. Next, Brian helped another younger student with mathematics, this time using square roots and cube roots to simplify numbers. Yu An also helped with mathematics, focusing on the fraction concept, and practiced simplifying and reversing fractions. Lastly, Brendan and another student worked on something completely different, studying earth science, the study of the planet we live on. It includes the oceans, atmosphere, the ground beneath our feet, and the planets and systems occurring outside our world. Overall, it was another successful tutoring session: everyone completed their homework before the end of the session and worked as efficiently as possible.
