On 10/4/25, AYLUS Basking Ridge held its weekly iPad Club at Fellowship Village, where members spent the morning helping seniors feel comfortable and confident with their devices. Volunteers patiently guided participants through everything from finding and opening emails, connecting Bluetooth to their cars, adjusting GPS volume, creating and changing phone wallpapers, adding contacts, adjusting device volume, setting up iPad stands, closing apps, checking the library catalog, borrowing ebooks, using FaceTime, deleting history, switching between light and dark mode, adjusting brightness, and zooming in and out. One volunteer even helped set up a mailing list for Fellowship Village, assisted with spam callers, and supported a department store account. Laughter and conversation filled the room as seniors explored new technology, shared stories, and discovered little tricks that made their devices easier and more fun to use.
The session left a lasting impact far beyond the technical skills. Seniors walked away feeling proud, independent, and excited to use what they had learned. The volunteers’ patience and encouragement created a warm, supportive environment where questions were welcomed, mistakes were celebrated as learning moments, and everyone felt included. For many, it was as much about connection as it was about technology—a chance to laugh, interact, and build confidence. By the end of the morning, participants weren’t just more tech-savvy; they were energized, empowered, and reminded that learning and growing can be a joyful, shared experience.
