On December 8th, 11 AYLUS volunteers visited the City of Plano Animal Shelter to donate hand-crafted pet toys made from fabrics of old clothes. Each volunteer had spent hours folding and tying these fabrics into pet toys weeks prior, and were now ready to pass them on to the animals of the shelter. At 3pm, volunteers grouped together carrying bags of the pet toys – in total, there were 76 toys. The people of the front desk advised that the volunteers under 18 had to be accompanied by adults before taking a tour of the building, and so, with the parents, the volunteers got to meet the dogs and cats to which their handmade toys were being given to. Each animal had their own personality— some were more energetic and loud; others were quiet and sleepy. But all were friendly and wanted a home. We left the building satisfied that we had given these animals a way of entertainment while waiting for their forever home.
