AYLUS Roslyn Helps The Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County at the Bayville Care Center (8th) on September 15th, 2024

On Sunday, September 15th, from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch visited the CPNassau residents at their Bayville location. CPNassau has been supporting many individuals with disabilities for over 75 years. They offer high-quality programs that enhance the care and lives of many individuals.

We had our monthly Bayville visit today and to our surprise, the recreational therapist was absent. While normally, we help her with what she had planned, today we had to step up and plan the activities on our own at a very short notice. We began with transportation bingo. We gave out cards and started the game. While we called out different forms of transportation, each of us helped a few residents to fill out their cards and we played until someone had bingo. After bingo, we decided to do arts and crafts. We made rings of foam leaves with smiley faces, acorns, and bows. They came out great with everyones piece looking special and unique. After that, we decided to do some bowling. We set up bowling pins and a roller for the ball. We put everyone in a circle and everyone took turns. All the residents were bowling great, it was strike after strike after strike. We did 3 rounds of letting everyone go, and everyone had a great time. Then, we gave everyone a break for 10 minutes while we set up the Giant Connect 4. We let each resident play against each other, the games got intense and went by fast. Everyone had a fun time. At the end, we brought everyone to lunch.

We were happy that with our combined efforts, the residents were able to have a fun-filled and joyful Sunday morning.  We learned that sometimes, things may not go as planned and you need to improvise. Today we also learned to be leaders and take initiative. Overall, this experience improved our leadership and planning skills.
