Information Provided by Amber Yu:
I went right after school to help out with the Plainsboro library’s holiday card programs on Dec 11th & Dec 12th, 2018. Both library and the kids sincerely appreciate my hard work. My total time volunteered for these programs was 2 hours.
After winter break, I continually offered tutoring to a six grader from our school district. We met for class on Jan. 2 (1hour) and Jan. 8 (1hour). I helped him study vocabulary, read a passage and answer questions, and write short essays. The student is a hard worker and both his mom and I are delighted to see his significant progress. He is able to stay on task longer and showed more interest in comprehension practice.
Through the tutoring, I was inspired to work harder in my Spanish class, by my student’s hard work towards improving his comprehension skills. I started to learn Spanish much later than other classmates. It was not an easy task to catch up since they had already studied the language for several years. But time and repeated practice became my tools to grasp the new language.
Besides tutoring, I am a volunteer for my school’s Media Center. The teacher there was very pleased to see me back as I also worked there during sixth and seventh grade. She checked the record and found out that I had already worked at the Media Center for 46 hours since fifth grade. This year, I have come in on Jan. 4 (0.5 hour), Jan. 11 (0.5 hour), and Jan. 18 (0.5 hour) to assist the teacher in checking in/out books, shelving, and organizing books. I love my school library and to me the library is like a second home. It feels great when I know that I helped keep the library in order and helped others feel right at home.
