Murrieta AYLUS Helps Local Senior Center (64th) ( 6/18 & 6/20/2024)

Reported by Caien(Daisy) Chen :

On June 18, 2024, AYLUS members helped with the local memory care senior center. They began by preparing a snack of yogurt, bananas, and preserved fruit which was served to them outside in a cup with a napkin and a spoon. They were also given juice which was key to making sure they stayed hydrated. Taking use of their time outside, the elders decided to go on a walk; some, who were able to walk, took laps around the garden while others who needed wheelchair assistance needed to be push. Along the way, they smelled the lovely blooming roses and the flowering jasmine while observing the beauty of the outside. Finally, they were guided home for lunch.

On June 20, 2024, AYLUS members volunteered at the local senior center where they assisted in the memory care department. They started the day off with chair yoga, perfect for the senior residents who had to reside to the use of a wheelchair. Meanwhile, AYLUS members carefully prepared the daily snack which consisted of yogurt, fruit, and applesauce all in a cup. As some residents could not eat by themselves, the members also hand-fed the residents. Later when they had all finished their snacks and the dirty dishes all sat in the sink waiting to be washed, they were brought outside to enjoy the bright summer day. To keep them hydrated, AYLUS members brought out water and cranberry juice for the residents. After all the residents had a chance to take a walk around, they stayed out for a bit longer to enjoy the sun before it was time for lunch.
