Murrieta AYLUS Helps Local Food Bank (53rd) (6/14/2024)

Reported by Hsin Chen(Julie) Lu :

On June 14th, 2024, Murrieta AYLUS members helped out their local food bank, the Community Mission of Hope. It was Friday, which meant all the bread, produce, desserts, and dairy products had to go. As usual, the embers began by washing their hands and grabbing a pair of gloves for themselves. Then they split into smaller groups to inspect fruits and vegetables, sort donations, and make food boxes. The members filled the buckets holding flowers that had been donated with water and arranged them outside in preparation to be given out. After the supervisor held their morning meeting the members were allocated to work outside, distributing food to families in need. Every family gets 1 food box, 1 food bag, 1 bag of grapefruits, and the options of milk, juice, chicken, and a hygiene bag. Members also made sure to give each family their choice of flower bouquets. As they came to closing time and the cars arriving began to dwindle, some of the members started helping gathering the food that hadn’t been given out. The produce would be donated to ranches to be fed to animals and the other foods would be donated to local churches. The members moved all the racks, carts, and tables to the back and mopped the floors before waving goodbye to everyone.
