AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch Participate in Magnetic Archery Event (3/30/2024)

The 60th event held by AYLUS Oakland Gardens was on Saturday, March 30th, 2024, from 12 pm to 2 pm. Volunteers from the Oakland Garden Branch went to Park of the Americas, where they were in encourage to participate in the free archery lesson by our Queens Urban Park Rangers. The day was quite windy through out the day. Which it made it quite difficult for the volunteers to hit the target.

The Queens Urban Park Rangers, Ranger Mena, Ranger Aguilar, Ranger Asaro, and Ranger K, urged the member of the Oakland Gardens Brach to try the free archery lesson, eve thought was a new experience for most the members. All the member were excited to take up the change and try something completely new to them. The member had to use all the strength they in order to make the arrow fly long enough to hit the target. The also had to hold the bow correctly or the arrow just fall out to the whole. Most of the member didn’t get it at first, but then slow caught on how to shoot the arrow. Each person were given three try until their turn was over. So that other people could get a change to shoot the arrow.

The AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch isn’t just about help the community, but also allowing people to experience new thing. It allows people to have courage do something new even if hard or time consuming. This organizations goal is to allow people to be courage and independent, while bettering the community in the process. The archery event helps the members adapt to obstacle that comes their way. Since there was wind that the members had to change the angle in which the arrow is shot, to combat the wind.

We like to thank the Queens Urban Park Rangers for giving us the opportunity join in on the Magnetic Archery event. The ranger that taught the free lessons on archery during the event was Ranger Mena, Ranger Aguilar, Ranger Asaro, and Ranger K. The event used safe equipment, like magnet arrows and Velcro targets. They also made sure the none would be in the firing zone by outlining it with cones. They also provided all the equipment that was needed, so all we had to being was ourselves. The Queens Urban Park Rangers were also willing to spread their extensive knowledge about history, astronomy, animals, plants, and more.
