AYLUS Bellaire volunteered at Houston Food Bank on March 10th, 2024

On March 10th, 2024, members of AYLUS Bellaire volunteered with Houston Food Bank.

From roughly 9:00am to 12:00pm, members worked with other volunteers under the leadership of Houston Food Bank supervisors to create Senior boxes, which are boxes of meals that support senior citizens. The volunteering took place within the Houston Food Bank warehouse with moderate temperatures.

A Food Bank supervisor explained to volunteers that the boxes would be made by assembly line and proceeded to sort volunteers into different jobs along the line. A few volunteers folded and taped boxes, passing them to where the majority packed food or beverages into boxes and handed empty, old boxes to others at the end who disposed of them. Volunteers enjoyed one break around 10 am before returning to the warehouse, where they packed boxes for about half an hour before cleaning up. After stacking unused boxes, putting away untouched food supplies, and sweeping the proximity, volunteers were informed of the progress they made and were given the option of finishing with or without a trivia game or working on another project. Most of the volunteers, including the AYLUS Bellaire members, left the warehouse to leave or wait to get picked up.

The team of volunteers successfully made over 300 Senior boxes.

8 volunteers participated in this event (3 hours): Alexander Tang, Shreyas Sinha, Ryan Li, Victoria Wang, Eleanor Zong, Matthew Zong, Elizabeth Zhou, and Yuruo Shen.

Thank you to our volunteers for packing meals for our senior citizens!
