On Monday, November 20, 2023, AYLUS Bellaire Branch members volunteered at the Beacon Day Center to help end homelessness. The Beacon is a non-profit organization that serves individuals experiencing homelessness with daily services like meals, laundry, and showers, as well as counseling, mentoring, and access to housing.
Some members helped fold clean laundry and place it on shelves, while others helped give out face masks. Afterward, volunteers helped chop food and prepare a Thanksgiving-themed lunch. The lunch meal included turkey, stuffing, dressing, and green beans. Members greeted those in line and served food by putting food on a lunch platter. Once lunchtime was over, volunteers cleaned up the kitchen, washed dishes, and placed leftover food into storage containers.
