On Saturday, October 24th, members of the Great Neck AYLUS branch hosted an AAPI event for kids at the Great Neck Main Library from 3:45 to 5:00 PM with an overarching Halloween theme. The activities that were held included story reading plus arts & crafts, with pipe cleaner pumpkins, paper crafts and star making offered to the kids.
To start out the event, Nathan Li, Andrew Li, and Goldman Tian read three story books to the children. Nathan read “Click, Clack, Boo!” by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin, Goldman read “Queen of Halloween” by Mary Engelbret, and Andrew read “This Year, a Witch!” by Zoey Abbott.
After reading, volunteers Isabelle Yang, Rainie Cheng and Goldman Tian helped kids make pipe cleaner pumpkins of various colors, ranging from pink to yellow to red, with options of becoming a pipe cleaner ring as well. Volunteers Jolynn Li and Nathan Li taught the making of paper crafts with a black cat and a pumpkin, while Christina Pan and Andrew Li taught paper star making.
Overall, the session was a day of great learning and fun right before Halloween. We thank anyone who came and look forward to our next event!
