Delaware Aylus Member Mapping the 5K running Courses for Public Use (09/15/26)

Cross-country runners often struggle to find accurate, clearly marked course maps. Information on government and running websites can be incomplete, outdated, or limited to individual courses, leaving runners without a comprehensive guide to courses across the State. As a result, runners may have difficulty following official race routes during practice and may even take a wrong turn during competitive meets.

To address this gap, our volunteer is building a free, publicly accessible collection of verified 5K cross-country course maps. By researching and running each course in person, the volunteer turns scattered route information into a practical resource for runners, coaches, and the wider running community.

Each course involves approximately three hours of service, including online research, running and recording the route, verifying course details, and preparing materials for publication. All the mas are recorded by our volunteer’s personal running, step by step. Maps, running records, and original running podcasts are shared on a public-service website.

To date, the volunteer has documented six courses, contributing approximately 18 hours of service. The project aims to help runners practice with confidence, navigate courses more accurately during meets, and encourage broader participation in cross-country running.
