On 9/20/2026, Aylus volunteers had a dragon boat practice in Steppingstone Park from 9:00am to 10:30am (1.5 hours).
Today we are training for next week’s Mid-Autumn Festival event’s dragon boat race. Even though it was drizzling, Aylus volunteers still managed to attend the practice. The volunteer coordinators taught us how to row the dragon boat. Everyone rowing the boat was supposed to lean outside and have their paddles perpendicular to the water when they’re rowing it. Rowing the boat requires some knowledge of how to do it, some coordination, and some strength. Everyone needs to be doing the same thing at the same time, or else the boat is going to wobble and people’s paddles are going to hit each other. The volunteer coordinator separated the entire move of rowing the boat into three steps, so we can coordinate better. When attending this type of event, it is highly recommended that people wear boots or Crocs because the water is going to splash onto the boat. Attending this type of activity is very meaningful as volunteers can learn a new skill while they’re exercising.
