On September 19, 2026, Aylus participated in the Jones Beach State Park project—the Jones Beach International Beach Cleanup Day. Our task was to start at Site 6 and walk west along the beach, cleaning up all the trash on the sand. The event lasted for three hours, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
AYLUS volunteers arrived at Site 6 at 9:00 AM, grabbed trash pickers and bags, and set off to clean up the litter. Most of the trash on the beach consisted of packaging bags, tissues, and bottles. However, there were also metal parts like tent poles and large pieces of plastic. The volunteers had to brave the strong winds and navigate the challenging terrain of the beach to find this trash, put it in bags, and then continue searching. It was important to note that the wind was very strong, easily blowing away lighter trash and making it difficult to open the bags. The volunteers needed to concentrate intensely on the entire process of picking up trash and opening the bags, otherwise, the wind could easily blow the trash away.
Although the volunteers were exhausted after the event, they felt it was all worthwhile. The sky was a clear blue, seagulls soared in flocks, and the waves washed over the beach again and again—what a beautiful sight! The volunteers hoped to preserve this beautiful scene.
