This July, the Delaware Branch launched an ongoing Oral History Archive Project dedicated to preserving the state’s cross country (XC) running tradition. The project aims to document the history, people, and places that have shaped XC running in Delaware for future generations to learn from and appreciate.
As part of this initiative, volunteers have been building a dedicated website to host the archive, including drafting content, organizing the site structure, and preparing pages to showcase the project’s findings. This is an ongoing effort that will continue to grow over the coming months.
The project also involves documenting historic XC trails across the state — capturing their locations, history, and significance to the local running community. In addition, volunteers have been conducting interviews with legendary figures and longtime veterans of Delaware’s XC tradition, recording their stories, memories, and insights to preserve this history in their own words.
This work is still in progress, and the Delaware Branch looks forward to sharing more updates, interviews, and archived trail histories as the project continues to develop.
