On the afternoon of July 27, two volunteers from the AYLUS Art Group hosted an origami workshop at the Hua Xia Chinese School Summer Camp, working with a total of 24 students across two classrooms.
The young leaders took an interactive approach by having the students vote on their projects. The older class selected a more intricate and challenging Dragon, while the younger class chose a simpler Snake.
To facilitate the learning process, the leaders played instructional videos, shared completed samples, and walked the students through the folding techniques step-by-step. Recognizing that origami can be difficult for young learners, the instructors patiently assisted students who struggled or felt frustrated, providing one-on-one demonstrations and corrections.
Although the session ran over the scheduled time, the campers stayed engaged. They completed their origami by the end of the class. Some even made two or three of them. The event served as another great example of youth leadership and community service.
