On August 15, 2026, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, AYLUS Oakland Gardens held its 246th event where the branch members went to Kissena Park Softball Field to repaint the parks benches.
During the event, the parent advisor team made 3 groups. Group 1 focused on scraping the loose scraps on the benches, while groups 2 and 3 would paint over them after group 1 was done. The parent advisor team also helped pour paint into the thing that you put a paint roller in for the rollers to use.
The process to start renovating the benches was simple. The first step we did was to set everything up by mixing the paint and by putting rosin paper on the ground to prevent paint from staining the ground, but mainly to prevent paint from touching the grass. This was a very crucial and important step since the paint touching the grass could cause the grass to die. After we set up the rosin paprer, we sent group 1 over to scrape off the paint scraps. After they finished, groups 2 or 3 would go over and paint over the entire bench. They would effectively and efficiently paint over the benches by letting the rollers paint over the big areas and by letting the brush holders paint the corners and gaps. Afterwards, we put wet paint signs to insure pedestrians won’t accidentally ruin the clothes by sitting. In total, we renovated a total of 25 benches.
We would also like to thank the goat Leroy Dunnell for supplying us with supplies. Because of him, we were able to make this event possible and make sure it was successful.
