On Tuesday August 11th, members from the Roslyn AYLUS branch collaborated in the Bryant Library to create cards for senior citizens, crochet items and decorate NOSH bags. Today was the eighth arts and crafts workshop but the first time doing three different types of crafts at the same time.
We began our session by laying out materials that we would use. We prepared cards, markers, pieces of paper and put them on the table. Some of our volunteers brought their own materials for crocheting mini bags and other crafts. Our volunteers spread out over three tables and all worked on their own projects. Some volunteers decorated paper bags for our KFIP bags and wrote cards, while others crocheted their own items. By the end of today we had decorated over 50 bags and wrote many cards. During this arts and crafts workshop people were able to learn how to crochet bags and had a fun time doing this.
During the last 10 minutes we collected the finished items and separated them from the rest. We packed up the materials including the stickers, markers and brand new paper bags. This arts and craft session taught us that contributing to the community does not always need to be an incredibly physical activity but can just be a simple thing like writing a card. Doing this activity has made our volunteers feel inclined to volunteer in the community more and keep on improving at our next event!
