On August 8th, 2026, members of the Syosset AYLUS organization returned to volunteer with LINPI (Long Island Native Plant Initiative), joined volunteer with additional external adult volunteers who lent their support to the day’s conservation efforts across Long Island. Volunteers once again took on labeling duties, this time finishing three full boxes of square plastic pots, tagging each with care to keep the nursery’s tracking system accurate and up to date. The group also filled trays with fresh soil, preparing growing space to give upcoming plants a strong start. A closer task involved tending to the nursery’s yellow yarrow (Achillea millefolium), where volunteers carefully removed yellowed and darkened plant material before stickering and tagging each one, helping keep the species healthy and properly identified. With the added hands and energy from the visiting adult volunteers, the team continued to strengthen LINPI’s mission and contribute meaningfully to the protection of Long Island’s native plants.
