On Saturday, July 25th, from 1 to 4 pm, five AYLUS Roslyn members volunteered at CP Nassau’s Bethpage residential home.
Since there were only three residents during this visit, the volunteers were able to give each resident even more personalized attention and care. We started the afternoon with a baking activity, working together with the residents to prepare a batch of caramel brownies.
While the brownies were baking in the oven, we moved on to making beaded bracelets. Each resident designed a bracelet featuring their initials and their favorite colors. For example, one resident created a striped bracelet using yellow and purple beads. The volunteers assisted with threading the beads and tying the bracelets so they fit perfectly.
After the bracelets were finished, we moved on to drawing and coloring. We used markers and various stencils featuring nature symbols, such as trees and birds. The residents enjoyed picking out their favorite stencils and creating unique designs with bright colors. Following the arts and crafts, the volunteers and residents worked together to complete a few jigsaw puzzles. We put together fun pictures of cats, dogs, and rabbits.
While the freshly baked caramel brownies were cooling, we set up and played a few rounds of Bingo with the residents. Finally, we handed out the warm brownies for everyone to enjoy before saying our goodbyes.
All the volunteers had a wonderful time spending the afternoon with the residents, and we hope to return in the near future!
