On Wednesday, July 8, high school volleyball player and AYLUS Pearland volunteer Yurong Qiu taught a child from the community basic volleyball skills during the first class program.
Yurong taught Ingrid how to pass a volleyball and introduced her to the different positions in volleyball. After Ingrid learned how to pass to a target, Yurong taught her how to set. Setting was more challenging because it requires finger strength, so it took Ingrid a little longer to learn the skill. Yurong’s friend, Natalia, also came to help Ingrid learn how to hit the volleyball. At the end, Ingrid joined Yurong and her friends in a friendly 6-on-6 scrimmage. This scrimmage helped her visualize what it will be like to play with other people on the court in a real game setting.
This lesson was very productive, as Ingrid learned how to pass, set, and hit while improving on specific techniques and volleyball skills. She had a lot of fun learning new skills and playing with older kids.
