AYLUS Oyster Bay branch Volunteers participated in I Love My Park Day

On May 2, AYLUS volunteers joined community members and park staff at Connetquot River State Park Preserve in Oakdale, New York, for the annual I Love My Park Day. This statewide event brings volunteers together to help maintain and improve New York’s parks and natural spaces.

After gathering at the historic Clubhouse for check-in and instructions, volunteers were assigned to various projects throughout the preserve. Our team helped improve a walkway by spreading and leveling stone materials, creating a safer and more accessible path for visitors. Other volunteers worked on maintaining pollinator gardens and supporting additional park improvement projects.
The work required teamwork, communication, and dedication. Although the tasks were physically demanding, everyone worked enthusiastically and supported one another throughout the morning. It was rewarding to see visible progress and know that our efforts would benefit both the park and its visitors.
Beyond the service itself, the event provided an opportunity to learn more about environmental stewardship and the importance of preserving public lands. Working alongside park staff and community volunteers reminded us that even small contributions can have a meaningful impact when people come together for a common goal.
AYLUS Oyster Bay branch volunteers were proud to support Connetquot River State Park Preserve and contribute to keeping this beautiful natural area welcoming for future visitors.
