AYLUS Basking Ridge Branch partnered with Semper Fi to support the Good Grief 5K fundraising event. Since 2004, Good Grief has provided unlimited, free support to children, teens, young adults, and families coping with the loss of a mother, father, sister, or brother through peer support programs, education, and advocacy. The Good Grief 5K Run and Walk is the organization’s largest annual fundraising event, and this year it attracted approximately 1,200 participants.
In addition to fundraising efforts, our members arrived at the event site early in the morning to assist with event preparations. They helped sort flyers, prepare runner bibs, set up registration and activity tables, organize food and snacks, and place event signs throughout the course.
Once the setup was complete, our volunteers were assigned to two key roles: water station attendants and course marshals. Volunteers at the water station prepared and distributed cups of water to runners and walkers while enthusiastically cheering them on throughout the race. Course marshals greeted participants, provided encouragement, and ensured runners stayed on the correct route. Their support helped create a safe, organized, and positive experience for everyone involved.
All of our volunteers remained on-site until the conclusion of the event, assisting wherever needed. The funds raised through this event will help Good Grief continue providing critical support services to families navigating the loss of a loved one.
