AYLUS Great Neck Branch volunteers for Great Neck Park District (58th) 5/3/26

On May 3rd, 2026, AYLUS Great Neck Branch volunteered at Kings Point Park to set up wood chips for the barbecue and picnic area. Only four volunteers attended this activity, but two adult volunteers’ parents also participated. Using various tools such as shovels, transport trolleys, and rakes, we evenly distributed a large amount of wood chips around the barbecue area. This made the area flat, covered the mud, and created a more enjoyable experience for visitors. When all of the volunteers arrived at the work area, we noticed flames burning near the forest. We immediately contacted the staff and helped them extinguish the fire by pouring a large amount of water on it. The fire probably occurred because people threw unextinguished charcoal into the wilderness instead of a safe metal tank. Despite having fewer volunteers than usual, we persevered, remained committed to completing our assigned tasks, and made steady progress. We worked efficiently as a team, with each person taking on part of the work, and we stayed focused despite our exhaustion. For example, two of us use shovels to get large amounts of wood chips to the trolleys, one of us transports and pour all the wood chips while another volunteer put it evenly across the ground. We are dedicated to this project and to upholding AYLUS’s mission of serving others through meaningful and practical volunteer work.
