On 5/9/2026, Aylus volunteers went to the Energy and Nature Center in Jones Beach from 9:30am to 12:00am (2.5 hours).
We are doing something similar as the last event: pulling out mugwort and crowned vetch. After 2 weeks, mugworts sprout again in the area that we cleared out last time, so it’s important to remember to remove the roots. We plant native plants in the ground after the area is cleared. When we returned this time, we also needed to remove cheatgrass because it’s an invasive plant, which wasn’t here the last time we came. Pulling out invasive plants instead of using herbicide or other chemicals is beneficial for the land because this avoids pollution.
